Called to the Ontario Bar, 1993.

Sylvia’s practice focuses on employment law matters, advising clients on workplace issues and representing clients in all levels of Ontario courts and before administrative tribunals such as the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and the OLRB.

She assists clients with respect to the preparation and interpretation of employment contracts (and independent contractor agreements), employment policy manuals and handbooks, and termination of employment notifications and agreements.

For issues that arise during the employment relationship, Sylvia assists clients with employment standards rights and obligations, managing human rights and workplace harassment complaints, accommodation duties and strategies, disability and return to work management, and severance issues and strategies.

In corporate –commercial transactions, such as outsourcings, and the sales of businesses, Sylvia has acted for both vendor and purchaser corporations with respect to the employment law aspects of such transactions.

When disputes arise that are not resolved by the workplace parties, Sylvia assists clients with negotiations and mediation of disputes, and represents clients in employment standards complaints and OLRB proceedings; in discrimination and failure to accommodate proceedings at the Human Rights Tribunal, and in the courts in wrongful dismissal litigation.

Sylvia also represents insurers in litigation of long term disability claims, and mortgage brokers in financing disputes.

In addition to assisting clients with legal matters, Sylvia has been a speaker, writer and educator on many legal topics including employment, family, privacy and general litigation. Her volunteer interests include serving on the Boards and committees of organizations serving at-risk youth, and providing support to parenting and pregnant adolescents.
